April postal match

I wanted to do a something a little different for April. Getting tired of the targets from Targets.com.
This one comes from nssf.org/shooting/targets. You can down load from the site.
Simple rules 25 yards any position, must state position, standing, kneeling, sitting or prone. Tie breakers will be decided by difficulty of position.
One shot per bull. Half ball scoring rule. Enter as many as you like.
This is an excellent target for practice, since you have to change your aiming point for the different bulls.

Shoot what you like. If you use peeps, just disclose that. Mostly so we can compare results. Remember this is for fun, and to get you out shooting.

I shot one a couple days ago before the wind came back up. First offhand with a new rifle. Will do better next time after more testing.
At least I got 2 in the black from standing.
 



Not going to try it today or for the next few according to my phone that is smart and “knows” everything.

Bit of a breeze here, not much, Kept it nice and cool. Well, we got out - not so hot.

Just couldn't get them in the middle, consistently. Taylor did much better with his .25. Guess I'll
have to try a flinter next time. Getting hard to see these sights, well- maybe?
I am embarrassed to say I did this sitting on a low plastic stool.

I used my .25 cal T. Allison effort.  My first two targets were my best.  I used a low wooden three legged stool and produced the two targets I post here.  I tried shooting from Daryl's stool but it was several inches lower and although it afforded a better rest for my left elbow, my dickydoo got in the way and I had trouble breathing.  I /might try this again, and next time, I think I'll give offhand a try.
Anyway, this rifle has traditional iron open sights, notch and blade.  I like shooting this rifle...no recoil and for this distance, nice accuracy.

The Sapergia brothers are doing some fine shooting. Daryl managed to keep 14 out of fifteen shots in the black. Though his scores aren't as impressive as Taylor's 48x, It is fine shooting on a not easy target.
I am getting things together to go to the Peoples Republic of Illinois for a couple of months. I will try to go out and shoot this for fun before I go. I need to shoot my Hawken some more before the Hawken Classic.

This will be the only chance I get this month and will probably not be able to shoot in May due to out of town and out of country obligations. Yes this target is harder than it looks and you can tell by my score. I shot from the seated position. I used my .36 caliber Soddy-Daisy, a .350 round ball, a .20 canvas duck material with spit for lube. 40 grains of Goex 3F and Goex 4F for my prime. Overcast conditions with a little too much wind and 55 degrees. Just finished and picked up before the rains started.
I scored them as a 39 & 40 but will let the host make the final determination.

I think the vertical “errors” are in the shooters eye. 
I SHOULD be able to shoot this standing but.
But they warned me that changing the lens was not going to fix every thing.

I was hoping to shoot a few targets before I left AZ, but the Muskrat was once again sending me God awful winds.
Maybe I'll get to shoot a few this weekend, but the winds here are sucking too.

If the weather gets better I will try some standing.
We are still getting “April showers” Bozeman Pass is sometimes taking hours to cross on I-90, they say… Street are likely iced over in town too since it dropped 11 or less here last night and they were still wet yesterday being warm from the previous balmy weather. Life North of the 45th parallel.

Thought I would do a little practice shooting my Hawken. This little target is tougher than it looks.
Back in the Midwest now, don't know the reason why but the 6000-foot elevation change always makes me shoot higher.
Had to adjust my sight picture. Anyway, this is my best target. Shot it offhand I score it a 38, my other target was a 37.
My scores don't count, so I don't get chagrinned over my poor shooting.

I need to get over to Taylor's to cast some balls for the target rifle. Might be today. It's been too cold and windy to cast
in the car port here at home.

Daryl and I got out again for another kick at the cat, and he shot a target one point better than I did, but I'll post it anyway...one must concede graciously when the occasion presents...

I used my S. Hawken replica - .62 cal, .613" pure lead ball, .021" 10 oz denim precut patches and machine oil/water ~ 1:10, 80 gr. FFg GOEX, 25 yards sitting from a table, (Probably outside of the rules), 11 Pound rifle percussion, scored 46/50 by the half ball.  Daryl shot a 47 1X with his "bull tosser" .69 cal.  Weather wasnt too bad - about 46 F (9 C) gentle wind and a little snow fell on us.  Ground was very muddy...looking forward to drier ground.
