Affixing butt plate on English fowler

I am building the English fowler kit from Chambers and wondering what is the proper way to affix the butt plate, particularly the tang.

Will a screw through the crown or nose of the butt plate be enough, or does the tang need to be fastened as well?  If so, should the tang be secured with a screw or a pinned lug?

Cross pinning was common but seeing a pin through the top of the buttstock somehow offends me.  So my method is with a blind hook near the front end of the butt plate return.  The screw in the heel drives the buttplate forward and down into its recess, and the hook pulls the return down at it's forward end.

I have done them with a hook to. Very clean look. I have also used hooks to secure English trigger guards.
