Stutz Builders?
« on: April 10, 2022, 12:32:25 AM »
A video from Capandball YouTube has sparked my intrigue into the short compact Jaeger style hunting rifles of Europe meant to be used from horseback when chasing game:

Who here has ever built, or can build, such a gun? If one were interested in commissioning a build for such a gun, who might one contact?

I think all roads lead to Ron Scott.
Strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords, is no basis for a system of government!

I made some flintlocks years ago for a woman in Switzerland and I recall she was having 6 short rifles made for a female team and the guns were called Schweizer FeldSTUTZERS or Swiss Field Carbines.I made 7 locks,6 to use and ONE as a back up  just in case of a failure.
Stutz as I recall is also a German word for a support.maybe a beam in a roof.An American car as well designed by Harry Stutz.
There are a bunch of really good builders here that can build such a rifle.

The classiest short jaeger I have seen is the Joseph Fruwirth Rifle. I believe the barrel is 17 inches long.  Houston Harrison created a very fine drawing of this Jaeger. Jim Chambers and Bob Harn collaborated to create an excellent reproduction a few years ago.

Buy a low end long rifle and cut it off to the the wanted  length and then sell the cut off section to make a pistol from.

Thank you. I am somewhat unique on this site as I myself, am not a builder.

1. It is Stutzen.
2. There is or was one on gunbroker.
Ron Scott definetely. But, it is just a short jaeger rifle.
All you need is a shorter Jaeger barrel. That's it.
Nothing special about these guns otherwise.
Take a Jaeger barrel profile and shorten the midsection...
I woul rather buy and shoot an original instead of spending more $$$ for a replica.
