Unique Side plate castings
« on: April 12, 2022, 02:04:39 AM »
Just wondering outside of casting your own; Is there any sources for more unique Old European style castings ...not military...but the interesting gun builders of Europe of the 17th and 18th Century?

The Rifle Shoppe is a source. Call to make sure they have what you want in stock. Never agree to back order.

If you are looking for only a side plate, you may want to consider buying a small piece of 1/8 sheet of the desired metal on eBay. I have used this approach for knife components. With a jeweler's saw and a couple files, you have unlimited artistic license.

Hi Jim,
Ron Scott often has sculpted side plates and wrist plates for sale.  They usually are from high quality German guns.  I think he has offered both silver and brass examples.  Muzzle Loader Builders Supply is another source.

I would like to know who makes the pistol sized ‘stand of arms’ sideplate I’ve seen used on a couple of pistols posted here over the years.

Hi,
I believe many of those were by Bill Kennedy and then Chris Altland.  Unfortunately, both of those good folks are gone.  The pistol stand of arms should be pretty easy to cast with Delft clay.

Unfortunately that is outside my skill and talent level.

I will check out those sources. I have purchased from the Rifle Shoppe many times in the past...Wasn't even sure they were still around.
I would like to see what is available now days ....Outside of that I have many brass sheets, stock piled away! Not sure what my supply of Jeweler saw blades looks like ( I usually break a half dozen on cutting out a side plate!)
