Just finished up this Rifle Shoppe Nock Volley Gun kit for a friend. Not something you see everyday.

Great looking gun.  Just out of curiosity, what does it weigh ?  And what caliber are the barrels ?

Seven 50 cal smoothbore barrels. It weighs in at 14# 3oz.

From accounts of the past recoil was vicious.
I think the original rifled version the combined load was 1260+- gr of lead and assuming 70 gr charge per barrel, 490 gr of powder.

I want to see a group and to see how close in time the barrels discharge to one another. I'm betting the group is about the size of a small ships broadside and the timing is what makes the recoil... Interesting. It's a gun begging for some slo-mo.

When I was visiting the Rifle Shoppe a couple weeks ago, there was a set of those barrels on the work bench in process. I believe the described charge was 40grs under a patched RB per barrel, and it's still a thumper at that.

Maybe someday I'll built one of my own.

When and in what application would that have been used? It's the first time I've seen one of those. I assume there is a vent hole connecting them all in series after the first one goes?

Primarily Naval usage. Yes, all 7 barrels go as one.

Naval use and the originals were rifled. Why I do not know, but they were. All fire at once and the gun is too light for that much powder and lead.

OK the first two PROTOTYPES were rifled. The rest were smooth. This makes more sense.
Dang I KNEW I had sen photos of a rifled version. And honestly its too impractical to interest me much. Did more research in the last 5 minutes than I ever have. Had a heck of time finding the rifled reference. Must have seen it in the American Rifleman or some such years ago.
