May Postal shoot
« on: May 01, 2022, 07:09:22 PM »
I propose we shoot the same target as April. Folks are just getting warmed up [ a bit of a pun intended ! ]    Any military position ie standing , sitting, kneeling or prone.  No tables or chairs.  Any metallic sights, 25 yards, round ball only.
Please advise what sights and position when posting.
This is a much more difficult target than I thought it would be, so I think it deserves another round  :)

Good I printed out a few extras. I probably shoot it offhand, but might try sitting position, you can get very steady with it.

I don't know if folks have lost interest in the postal shoots. Maybe the weather has gotten too warm for some. Maybe folks have shot the target and are embarrassed by their results, and just not posting. I thought I had more copies of this target, but I only had one with me. I have to get another ink cartridge before I can print some more.
I shot this target offhand. This is a .58 Jaeger I have been shooting about a year. I am reticent to make a lot of changes in sights, till I have shot a rifle for a few hundred balls. I am now satisfied that the sights are where they need to be.
This is intended to be a hunting rifle so I am happy with the trigger pull weight at three pounds. But I will spend some time tuning the lock some. It is as I received it. It wouldn't hurt it any if the break would be a little smoother.
This target will let you know that quickly.
Any way I shot this Thursday afternoon. I score it a 34.

Thanks for posting  :) .     That is  a nice bit of offhand shooting !   Looks to me like a 35 rather than a 34, so we'll go with the 35

Our weather has not been conducive to shooting muzzleloaders.  But I have my targets printed, and even though Daryl is off on an adventure with his bride, I am going to submit a few targets for this month's frolic.

Bob's rules posted in the first of this thread, state any military position.  It doesn't say NMLRA rules apply.  I'd rather see more entrants than fewer, especially as a result of some goofy rule.

Finally got range membership, etc sorted, took the day off and went shootin'. Mostly spent sighting in the gun, but finished with these 2 and only *just* had enough powder with me.
Of course I had a flier on each. How does it work when you double up on one target? Remove the highest score?

Lymans Great Plains .54 cal percussion,  standing offhand, iron sights. (70gr 3F, .535 ball)

Smaller black.  " Aim small "     ;D   There's still lots of time to burn more powder !
I scored these as a 32 and a 31.  Unfortunately, the higher score is scratched when two shots are on the same target :(     You did some very nice shooting , though  :)

Yeah, we have similar at our monthly shoots and they're a pain :). There's always that one shot ruining the best score.
The worst, though, was this one:

Daryl shot well in spite of his flubbs on his last bull on his targets.  But I couldn't get it together no matter what I tried.  Sucks to be a mere mortal.

My best target....

I guess I can assume to have won the May shoot, with a 41 1X or 42 1X.
I will start a new thread for June.
