April postal match

Not doing well at all. Like Taylor said, we got out again - kinda hailed on us a little bit, then started raining as we were packing up.
Oh well, not good. I used various loads spreading about 12gr. total, from 70gr. 2F Schutzen to 82gr. Schutzen. The 82gr. load was my
last target with 2 tens/X's. .021 Denim and 10:1 water & soluble oil. My bead is the same size as the bull. LOL- that's my "reason" and
I'm sticking to it.
If over-layed, my worst group is 1 1/4" C to C- best is an inch or just under.

That is good shooting on that pesky target. I'm working up loads for my new jaeger. Hope to get out Sunday.
Got a bunch of different patching to try out.

Where Daryl is coming from, and we discuss this every time we try these targets, is that not very long ago, we could do better than this offhand, shooting on our own hind legs like a fellow should.  But those days are apparently gone (glory days) and it is frustrating.

Daryl & Taylor, Believe me, I thoroughly understand the difficulty of offhand shooting, which seems to increase with age (My lower back isn't real happy with it, LOL) and most certainly with lack of practice.  OTOH, frustration/dissatisfaction can make you either give up or practice enough to improve, i.e., if aging is ignored.

I hear you about the back, Paul. This is my major problem as well. It aches for a couple days after shooting, any more.
On top of that is vision - of course.  I changed back and forth between my new prescription glasses and the .75 diopter
readers - no measurable difference on the target, at least with these sights.

Twenty shots all in the black!  I'd be thrilled to shoot that consistently.

At last !!   The weather has turned. It's only below zero at night     Minus 1 tonight, but the day was sunny with only a bit of wind.  I actually managed to shoot a target, despite the usual chores and trying for a turkey.
Not my best, but I'm happy with it , as this is a difficult one .
.54 cal  Virginia style rifle, Colerain 42 in " C" weight barrel.  Open sights with a very wide front blade.  Single trigger. This is my hunting rifle.
Target was shot off hand.
80 gr FFg, .20 linen patch, bear oil lube, .535 ball from a Lee mold

A VERY NICE  Bob, I see a 43 or 44 standing. I can't do that any more.
Taylor and I got out again and I improved a bit, but we used his table.
I used 3 drams (82gr.) 2F Schutzen powder, reclaimed (range pickup) 10 ounce denim for patches and WaterSolubleOil and water 1:10 for the first 2 targets.
I switched to LHV and same range pickup patches (my own previously shot patches - everyone else's are too small-or burnt up) for the last target. Just a fluke and I bow
to Taylor's 48 1X as being better due to the calibre and position used. "Give a monkey a typewriter and sooner or later he'll type a word".
Taylor scored my last target. Again, had some decent groups.
A nicer day today, 12C (53.6F) and sunny. almost t-shirt weather - would be for poor Bobinthewoods.  They've been having some horrid weather.

All right guys after looking over all the entries there was some really fine shooting. However there were only three entries that met the rules of the match. Muskrat Mike sitting entry, Dphariss's offhand entry, and Bob in the woods offhand entry, which I score a 43. So I will deem Bob to be the winner of the April match.
Had every one shot off some kind of assisted rest I would have to have given it to Daryl with his 50 1x.
So if the Sapergia Brothers don't agree with my reasoning, they can try to find me in the Midwest US and beat the carp out of me.

    Wow.  Never thought that target was that good ! I saw a few that scored higher, but....      How about we keep the ball rolling on this one, and try some more in May ?
