Single Band Horn

 This is my interpretation of a North Carloina horn shown in  Tom Grinslade's book Powder Horns/Documents of History
 It is about 14 1/4" around the outside curve, tip to tip, the stopper protrudes approximately 1 1/4" making the horn and base 13". The base is Cherry and is about 2 X 2, it has a small knot in it, it is held in with 8 wooded pegs. The horn band was heated and presses on. The tip is antler and is about 2 1/2" long and is held with a steel pin. The horn was colored with acid the base with oven cleaner, the base has an oil finish on it.

Tim, I like it, very clean, simple lines, looks great, whats the tip made from ?, almost looks like marble the way the dye took!

Tim,

I like it.  Simple, clean and elegant.  The tip looks fantastic.  Very nice work.

Did you use aqua fortis for the acid or something else? Nice horn I really like your work.

Answers to the two questions:

1. The tip is antler, quickly wiped with, Lt brown oil based leather dye.

2. I did use AF on the body, let it sit for a couple of minutes and then hit it with a
    heat gun.

Really nice looking horn Tim. The AF gave it a great color. As usual, you made a great- looking southern horn.
