Another Powder Horn
« on: May 24, 2022, 10:40:14 PM »
Hi,
I just finished this Powder Horn today (#15) and thought to share some photos here.
The hardest part in doing these horns for me has been coming up with an image to scrimshaw. I have a collection of cool quotes I can use (the one on it now is my own). But for an image... ugh. It was over a day of mulling over this idea and that, until last night I came upon the idea of a frontal view of Philadelphia's Statehouse (now called Independence Hall). I guess I should call it "Horner's Block"   :-\

The hardest part in doing these horns for me has been coming up with an image to scrimshaw.

If you don't have it the book "The Engraved Powder Horn" by Jim Dresslar has some Great carved horns in it that will ease that up. As well as "The Hartley Horn Drawings" book and "Powder Horns-Documents Of History" by Tom Grinslade. There are many more but these will keep you busy for awhile :)

Thanks Tim- looks like some good resources. I don't want to actually 'copy' anyone's work but often get inspired by looking. That's what makes it fun.
