Good targets Alacran. I'm seeing more than 1/2 ball in the 9 ring (9 o'clock) on your second Jaeger target, though.
Thus 48 1X. It's very close to 1/2 ball by the outside of the white line.
Still time. boys and girls.

Hopefully I can get out once more before I go back out West.  By the way Daryl, I need to thumb my crown a little more.

I feel it there is no such thing as too smooth. When done on the lathe, I like to use crocus cloth after the worn out 320 grit.
The smoother is it, the 'easier' the ball and patch combo will 'form' into the bore.
Alacran, your second targets are very nice.
Mike your first two, as well. sure doesn't take much of a flub, to throw one or two "out".

Too hot for me the last few days, so I made an effort to get out early this morning before the worst of it.  This target was shot with my .62 smoothbore.  38 in Colerain oct/round barrel. Paper cartridges with 100 gr FFg , .600 ball  A few grains from each cartridge were used to prime.   Shot at 25 yards, standing, but braced against a tree.  No rear sight.    score looks like a 46 ?

I hope to get out again before the month end, with my rifle

Good shooting Bob. That settles it If I get out again this month it will have to be with the smoothie.

Really good shooting Bob. Looks like 46 to me.
Well done. Shooting paper ctgs with the 20 bore is something I haven't done yet.

It's only 25 yards, and my 20 bore loves that load.  I've been tempted to put a rear sight on it just to see the difference. Maybe super glue one on .  Honestly, I can't do as well with the 10 bore, although it's very good.  I happened on that load for the 20 early on, and although I've tried others, nothing shoots as well. Patched round balls come close, but still not as good.   :)

Super glue works fine and can be "popped" off.

Well since it is hot here in the Pacific N.W. I got up early and went to the range to shoot a final 4 targets. Midway through the second target the "wheels came off the bus" so to speak. That is why I am only posting the first and second target. Just couldn't get the barrel to stay still. Lets just say the scores of the final two were in the very low 30's. Oh well 1 out of 4 ain't bad for an old guy. Had fun and look forward to see what's in store for July.
I shot my Don Bruton late 1790's North Carolina .54 caliber rifle from a standing offhand position. .530 round ball with a .018 ticking patch lubed with a mixture of 50% T.O.T.W. mink and 50% Neatsfoot oil. I used 75 grains of Goex 3F. I scored the 1st target a 48 2X and the second one a 44 1X.
Happy shooting ya all stay cool, hydrated and well.

It happens  Mike. Thanks for posting more targets. Sitting here in the Vancouver Int. Airport. Been here since 1AM. Flight home at 08:50. Could have driven home from here in slightly less time.
I see your first target as a solid 48 with 1 X.

I concur with the 44 1X or 2X (after more careful assessment) on the second target.

Made it under the wire. These targets are not winners, but I didn't want Bob in the Woods to be the only one to post smoothbore targets.
Shot them at Buck Creek, in Linton Indiana. My friend Dave Witty was there shooting and Flinchrocket showed up to watch.
I was shooting my .62 smoothbore. I was using 80 grains of Schuetzen 2f with a .600 ball, bear lubed Jo Ann's pocket drill.
Shot offhand at 25 yards without any support.
On my second shot I broke my prescription shooting glasses. So I shot with plain safety glasses. Made the sights really easy to see, but I couldn't really see the X ring. Any way I scored them as 45s, though the one on the left could go a 46.

That is good respectable smoothbore shooting, alacran  :)  The day isn't over , and I'm hoping to slip out after our supper for a quick 5 shots with the rifle .

Just managed to get one target done. This time with my .54 rifle
42 in Colerain C weight, Siler flintlock, single trigger,  80 gr FFg, .535 ball from a Lee mold, .018 linen patch , bear oil lube
25 yards, offhand

Looks like I picked up 2 points over my smoothie  48 1 X ?

I measured groups today, and make Taylor's 49 1X at just under 2", while Alacran's 48 or 49 1X ran 2.2+".
Decent group Bob.
I see a pair of nines, Bob + an X.

Just looked at Taylor's entry again and that is a fine group. All in all, fine shooting by everyone. Looking forward to what Taylor comes up with for July.

You got it. Taylor. Since this is the first day of our local Rendezvous & registration is in 1 hour, we might have to wait until Monday to find out what "it" is.
Or- we could shoot the same target again, now that we have "some" practice.
