Moravian inspired build
« on: July 20, 2022, 10:51:08 PM »
As some of you know I am a student being taught by Jeff Talbert. This build will be based on the Andreas Albrecht that some refer to as "The Two Tailed Dog". I'm not going for an exact copy as this is my first build from a blank stock. I just really love the sculptured shape of those early Moravian guns. It's become kind of an obsession of mine lately.

I used the KRF image of the original and the included dimensions to blow the picture up and print it. Jeff created a pattern from the picture. We started out thinking we could use a Chambers Deluxe Siler lock but Jeff found that the lock plate needed a little bit of curve so we switched to a Chambers Dale Johnson which seems to be an appropriate choice when comparing it to the original lock. The stock, trigger guard and butt plate are from Allen Martin. The barrel is a .50 cal 42" Colerain swamped B weight. Jeff is going to teach me how to make the ramrod pipes.

Below are some pictures of us working on it at Jeff's shop. I will post pictures so everyone can follow our progress and provide feedback.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Fred retired years ago! He was the BEST!!!  Who does them for you now?
I just hate all the shipping costs and wait time, so I do them similar to above.
