Seth you are correct on your assumptions on how scoring works. Your target scores a 47 1X, possibly a 2X it is hard to tell without overlaying it over a clean target and line up the score lines. The center of the ball just has to touch the outer edge of the scoring ring. The ball at 11 o'clock on the X ring is clearly an X, while the one at 7 o'clock would require more scrutiny. It is very close, again good shooting.

Nessmuck, the range I shoot at has two 60 power Vortex spotting scopes. They are always set up so someone without a scope can use them.
Interestingly not that many occasional shooters shoot at 100 yards. I would say about 2/3 of the shooters are shooting handguns at 7 to 15 yards.
There are some rifle shooters that will shoot out to a hundred and very few shoot offhand.
But yes, when someone walks to the 100-yard line to retrieve targets things really slow down.

Thanks Alacran. I appreciate the explanation and the compliment. Hopefully I can get out and do better. I've been really impressed with the rifle, and it fits me well.

Iam have been the only guy at my club that owns a spotting scope…lol. I have yet to see another. So after the first delay …I offer up my spotting scope so I can at least get 5 shots off

Thought I would give it a try,only had time to shoot one target.It got to hot no shade or cover at the range. This the first time I've shot this rifle off hand. Oldways

Here's my submission for July with my Isaac Haines .54cal. I couldn't buy an X today if I tried. 70gr. GOEX FFg + Lee Precision .535" (.537" in fact) home cast RB's (weighed) + "Sew Classics" .011" - .012" twill patches. Lube was 1 Ballistol:6 water. Targets were shot in this order: top left first, followed by top right, and finally the lower/third one.

Greetings All,

Got to the range today and shot a couple of July's targets. Below is the best one of the day. Looks like a 42 to me.

20 gauge smoothbore flintlock fowler without a rear sight.

We'll see what August brings us,

Thanks Alacran. It was a good morning at the range. I had no company for probably 2/3rds of morning If I don't count the big toad hanging out under one of the concrete shooting benches.

I was able to get out to the range yesterday. I was itching to shoot my new skwerl rifle which I finished on Tuesday. I posted photos on the Gun Building section.
I posted a 25 yard pistol target to see where it was shooting. I used 35 grains of Old Einsford 3f with bear lubed Jo Ann's pocket drill, and a 395 ball.
The windage was pretty good out of the box but it was shooting 3 inches high. I was shooting off hand.
I decided this was good enough to shoot this months match for grins.

I had to hold a little below 6 o'clock and ended up with a 45.
Then I shot my Bucks County .54. I used a .530 ball 70 grains Goex 2f and Jo Ann's bear lubed pocket drill.

That gave me a 47 X.
I managed to shoot six targets this month with four different rifles. My average for the six targets was a 47 and I hit 4Xs. So all in all I am pleased for the month

If I'm understanding the scoring right, then Alacran's and myself both scored 48x, but he shot and posted his 48x first, so he won? That is of course up to Taylor to to decide overall. I'm just happy to keep participating and practicing.

OK, alacran and Seth have both posted targets that score 48 1x, so I went to a measurement of the group size to break the tie and Seth's target is better by about 2/10's of an inch.
So Seth is July's winner and is responsible for hosting August's contest. When the shooting is this close, it makes it interesting for the match director. Thanks everyone for your patience and forebearance, and congratulations to Seth for his winning target.
And thanks to my brother Daryl for helping me run this match.
