Hi, Bob.   Thanks for your concern.  I had spinal surgery March 19th and I am still recovering the use of my hands.  A friend is building a copy of the Carson Hawken under my tutelage, so I keep busy.  Another friend is helping me with the computer work to put together my How to Build a Hawken tutorial.  I have about 35 chapters of notes I made as I did the work, along with a few thousand photos of the work.  He is helping me put it all together with my photos.  I hope to get it done someday.  Herb

Hi Herb.
I hope you are recovering well and I am glad you are writing up your notes.  They are invaluable and any publication on Hawken rifles by you will be a treasure to the rest of us.

Herb,
Praying you are healing good and feeling better! Glad you have a protege to guide in making a HC Hawken. Also, you already contribute your wealth of information and knowledge about Hawken through the posts and threads you have posted for a long time on ALR. We all enjoy reading and learning from your knowledge and experience. Your tutorial and associated photos will be better than anything in print to this date. I directed a friend of mine last week to search your articles on Hawkens. He is just getting started and I told him you were one of the most knowledgeable men about Hawkens and you had handled, photographed, measured and studied most of the infamous Hawkens still in existence. Get to feeling better and good wishes on your continued recovery.

Herb,
Sorry to hear of your spinal surgery, been there, no fun. Very important to follow Dr instructions and follow-up PT.
Best to you,
Dennis

I know herb is getting up there. I'd like to read his notes on the run in with the Blackfeet indians.

Thanks, everyone.  I don't remember a run-in with Blackfoot Indians.  I did have a good Blackfoot Indian friend in Portland, Vivian.  She and her husband Bob once drove from Portland to her relatives on the reservation in northern Montana in one day.  They couldn't make it all the way to their place, so Bob shut the car off in the middle of the trail (no fences, lights, cars, just open prairie) and they laid the car seats down to sleep.  A very loud whistling of "Buffalo Gals" reared them out of their seats.  They couldn't see anyone.  Bob got on his spotlight and looked all around, nothing.  He walked down the trail, still nothing.  When they got to her folks place in the morning, Vivian told them about the whistling.  They said,"Oh, its just the ghost of that old trader that was killed here many years ago."  True story.

Longcruise, I don't know when we will be done, but we are working at it.
