just for fun rifle
« on: October 26, 2009, 10:19:19 PM »
Some time ago there was a post about a J Georg rifle and weather or not anyone has seen a fully developed Lehigh Georg rifle. While most of his work shows that Funky Allameangle blended influence, I do have photos of two that have more Lehigh influence . With that in mind i thought I'd have some fun. A 42" Getz 45 cal. 3/4 in. barrel.Sliding wood box.Eastern Berks Co funky incise carving. With the semi circle punch marksA super skinny rifle.

Love what you did for the finish!  Nice grain showing through and "pops" with the engrave.  Proud gun for sure!

Scott,

Most certainly another fine rifle. You do have a way with Lehigh/Bucks Co guns. I love the color, style and incised carving. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Nice!!!!

That is the color I am looking for. Send it to me so I can have a look up close. I promise I will get it back to you within the next 20 years.
All jokes aside, I am starting an Early Virginia this afternoon and this is exactly the color I want but I just can’t see to find the right formula. Would you care to share?

Thanks,

Good looking rifle, nice work, great lines and design. I'll bet it was fun seeing it develop.

Looks traditional to me, if J Georg was real!  Just kidding, his rifles are fascinating and I've been hankering.

I keep thinking my vision's failing me when I look at the the carving behind the ckeekpiece. Those double shark fins got my eyes kinda fooled. I like your imagination. First I think it's maybe a bit too compemtorary for me, but then again maybe it's not ( Georg). Your lines are well done. Very nice work.

Cool.  I keep wanting to do a Georg type rifle.  Did you make your little semi-circle punch with round teeth or square teeth?

Thanks everyone!

BY "just for fun" I mean only that I don't get a chance to often to build exactly what I like anymore....so it was allot of fun! Not having to worry about weather or not someone else was going to love it was very freeing!

The carving is defiantly a blend of Gerog and Contemporary... I couldn't bring myself to just go to town with a gouge. Its slightly more flat bottom.

The stain is just aniline dye amber, red and brown applied in differant concentrations where I wanted more of one color or another.

 Good question Stophel....They are square.

scott, I really like what you did on this rifle. You did a very nice job with the architecture. The carving looks great as well. It is nice to build what is in your heart. I think your excitement for the project shows in the final product.
Great job,
Marc
