Half stock ram rod hole
« on: July 16, 2022, 07:54:58 PM »
When drilling a ram rod hole in a full stock, you have the R/R grove to help guide the drill. How do you do it on a half-stock where there is no grove?  Working on a walnut Hawken half-stock and getting to the point where I need to drill that hole.

The first thing I do after the barrel is inlet is I solder the rib on with the thimbles silver brazed to it. I then solder the rib assembly onto the barrel and use it to guide my drill for the ram rod hole ;)

Finally got around to trying this today! Worked like a charm! I clamped an extra ramrod pipe on the rib where the rib meets the wood. My bit went in straight and true.

Thanks again for your help!!
