My original German smoothbore pistol

(1/2) > >>

Justin Urbantas:
Got out today with my original German pistol that I fixed up.  I fixed the stock, made a new sear spring, put in a new nipple, and polished up the bore.

I was shooting 3 shot groups from the bench at 15 yards, with 20 gr fffg and a.490 ball with .015 patch.
It shoots great groups, but I think I'll need to make a new sight for it to get it to shoot where I want.
I was using a 6 o'clock hold, and used some Kentucky windage to get it on target.
If I get it shooting where I want, I might bring it to rendezvous for the pistol shoot.

Not too shabby for a 170 ish year old gun.

Woodbutcher:
Mr. Urbantas: Wonderful pistol. Thank you for your post. Woodbutcher

LynnC:
If I remember right you repaired a break thru the grip bringing this old gun back to shooting condition. Well done!

alacran:
Glad to see you shooting it. It is good you finally came out of hiding.

Justin Urbantas:
LynnC. Yeah it was snapped right through the grip. I cleaned it all out, glued it back together and drilled through the butt, gluing in a dowel through the whole thing for reinforcement. The crack is hardly noticeable now.
