Added a piece of whitetail antler to my Fowler ramrod. What do you think?

I'd probably shape it differently, but I love it.

Thank you. I was afraid if I shaped it too much it would just turn into a white cone 😆. Also it fits perfect in the bore with just enough wiggle room.

I assumed that might be the reason for the shape!

I've thought about attempting to scrimshaw a piece of antler inlay. But I don't know how to scrimshaw.

I like my ramrod to be even with the end of the barrel. A friend of mine used to quickly pass a small propane flame on the edges of his antler knife handles to give them a dark yellowish antique look.

Black horn would be better, imho.

My whitetail rod tip has lasted 35+ yrs, but I lathe turned it to a conventional swelled profile and comes down to rod diameter. It polished up nicely.

I like it.  Sure beats the ugly brass one that's on mine.
My profile picture is my beloved K9 best friend and soulmate, Buster Brown, who passed away in 2018.  I miss you buddy!

Nice idea, but I think of takes away from the rifle or smoothie.  I would put a tarnished brass or iron tip on it with threads in the end of the tip & epoxy it on them a 1/16" pin thru it.  (YOu may someday be glad you have those threads, and not so glad if you didn't pin it.
To me the horn tip is kinda like putting a swirl burnt stripe on a RR.  Great if you like it, but takes away from the rifle.  Attention is supposed to be on the rifle, not the RR or the tip.  But it is yours, do as you like. RR tip is a easy change later on if so desired.

I appreciate all the feedback. All in all I was mostly playing around to see what I liked and figured the ramrod was a good place to experiment. I am no pro by far but I do plan on making another one later with either black horn or brass tip and threaded rear tip. I'm glad some liked it I appreciate the honesty of those who didn't. Glad I could stir up a little discussion either way 😆. Hope y'all got a kick out of it either way.

An antler tip can be nice , and they are Tough!
Your tip is a real good working one, and will last forever!

Horn is more PC, but is known to split.
In the 16th and 17th C, antler was used quite a bit.
Here's one with my  homeade matchlock.

Such a tip would be terribly wrong on a Longrifle though!

With it sticking out that far, I would think it could get burnt after a period of use.  Then it wouldn't be so purty.

I think that rifle was made for display, not to be used.  I know I would not use it, but that is just me. I definitely
would not be dragging it out thru the mud, the blood, nor the beer.  ;D  When the beer comes out, it would be
back in the safe.  ;D
