Ram Rod / Rammer info help needed
« on: September 03, 2022, 09:23:49 PM »
Hello I have been asking around a bit about this rammer and thought I would try here as well. ☺

Back in the late spring I managed to acquire an original flint lock with this rammer hanging out of it. The rammer was not made for the flintlock because it was quite a bit too short.

I have posted a few pictures of the stamping on it in hopes someone can point me in the right direction as to what it belonged to.

As it sits it is 39 1/4" and would appear to have about 3/4" of the screw missing

Happy to supply any further information that I can ☺

What is interesting about this particular rammer are the markings which resemble those applied by the Brits. At first glance the markings appear to look like a number "95" over a "C", but it is an oblique view so nothing definitely.

The rammer could be for what collectors refer to as a Type III Pattern 1793 or Pattern 1809 Bess. Those muskets had 39" long barrels. But, that is a first impression of the limited view of the markings.

What type of arm was this rammer on?

Morning
It was a nondescript flinter that I have since traded of and never thought of taking pictures of.  :(

I believe you are correct in your description.  I have attached some clearer pictures.
Not sure what the last picture represents........
Can't really find any other stampings on the rod.

Sure appreciate your help

The stamp in that last pic looks a bit like a Fleur de lis and I wonder of the other might be a rack number.  Another member might know if French musket rammers were sometimes marked that way.

I figured the stamp in the last pic is a crown. the sides if the crown not getting stamped because of the curvature of the ramrod. I don't see a fleur-de-lis.

Thank you all for your input and I would have to agree that the curvature of the rod in that area would support your theory on the crown.
