 Many of you recall one of my posts from earlier in the year. The local 4-H shooting sports club uses my range as their home range. After seeing how poor the quality of their black powder guns, particularly the flint guns I decided (with a whole bunch of help) to outfit the club with 3 custom flintlock rifles.
 Last weekend was the Kentucky State 4-H shooting sports championship and was held at the Bluegrass Sportsman’s League in Wilmore Ky..
 Our little club sent 4 young folks to complete. All 4 were on the podium at the end of the shoot. The 2 older kids finish 1-2 and the 2 younger kids finished 2-3. Here they are!




 None of this could have happened without support from; Austin Paul, Jeff Talbert, Randall Cantrall, Ron Hess, and the great folks at Jim Chambers Flintlocks.

Amazing people like yourself that go out of their way to help others, especially younger generations just getting started, are a large part of what makes muzzle-loading so amazing. Thank you for doing so much to help those young people out and congrats to them!

Wayne Estes helped my 2 kids ( now adults) win 9 state 4H flintlock championships combined. (Never brag on your kid or your horses) He built them Hot rod kids guns and taught them how to shoot. Both had killed a deer with a flintlock by age 6, the oldest, sitting in Big Wayne’s lap:) Hes all about paying this sport forward and im glad to be involved in a small level. I hope this motivates others to do the same in their countys…. We gotta get the youth involved!

Congratulations to the young competitors, and hats off to Wayne and the other great folks that are helping to hand down the traditions of our sport to future generations.  This isn't something young people can get involved with easily on their own. The kindness, generosity, and fellowship of my fellow American longrifle enthusiasts never ceases to amaze me!
