My current build
« on: October 01, 2022, 02:37:15 AM »
I’m finally starting to see some life in this one.  I’m getting a lot of practice on the parting tool.

This is the first time I’ve tried a relief carved rifle and there’s a lot of it.  It’s been a very fun project so far. I made 5 checkering tools for the long strait lines.  If you need one for your build,  let me know. They make life a little easier once you get the hang of it. Slow and very light pulling strokes for the first couple passes seem to be what works best for me.

Hey Dave.  This is my 5th from a plank.  My first two were kit rifles.  I’m getting quite the collection of my own builds. Haha.  I repurposed a 20 ga barrel from a previous build for this one.

Coming along really nicely. Have you thought about countersinking the holes in the cheekpiece inlay and peening in the nails to file smooth?

Thanks Rich.  I appreciate any advice I can get.  I'll have to refer back to the KRA disk Monday.  I left it at work.  I think I got the star from the Griffin rifle but I'm not positive.  It's actually a combo from the H. Rupp rifle and one of the Christian Springs guns off the disk.

Mike, it’s a brave undertaking. Those inlays that flow over the edge of the cheekpiece give me the heebie-jeebies. Plus the lion carving! Luckily you’ve got great builders here who have done these big Moravian guns. Hopefully they will chime in.
