Muzzleloader Range Log
« on: October 01, 2022, 05:39:00 PM »
I have developed a web based range log for traditional muzzleloader shooters.   It is currently what is known in the industry as an MVP (Minimum Viable Product).   That means that it barely does something useful.   However,  it is at the point I need some feedback.   This is web based right now.  So you will need internet access on some device (mobile, laptop, desktop) to use it.   It is designed to work well on mobile devices like a phone or tablet.   If I get enough positive feedback, then in the future I might add offline data storage that would allow it to work temporarily off the web.   Native IOS or Android apps are the next step after that.  There is also the possibility of adding various analytics of the data collected.   I have added my rifle front sight height calculator to the app using the data provided for each firearm.

You can get all the details and a link to the application on my personal website at https://www.markelliottva.com/2022/09/muzzleloader-range-log/   Take a look and let me know what you think; either here or leave a comment on my web site.   I need to know if I should spend anymore time on this.

Here is a screen shot of part of one of the log screens:

I have always stressed the keeping of your load and sight in data. Some people consider it " information overload " but my memory cant be relied on to bring back all those details years after I worked up those loads.  ;) :D

Oh yes - a data book can be vital, especially if you have and shoot a number of guns.
Another way of keeping track of loads used, is to use a different bag & measure and powder horn for each different gun.

So far,  I have gotten no feedback on the application itself.   I have spent many weeks working on this and would appreciate some feedback, even if it is negative.   If there is no interest,  I will not develop it any further.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark, I think your 'charting' is excellent & covers a lot more "data" than my loading notes provide.
I see nothing negative about it.
I see no need for:
score ring
score X
score orientation
rb vs Conical - could just have 2 lines RB and check mark or conical and check mark
however diameter and weight will show which

About the scoring "lines" -  if you shoot the same targets in competition, perhaps it is necessary.
I use whatever target looks the best to me at that range and shoot to the sights when developing loads (grouping), or for sighting in- (precision).
Overall, looks good to me.
