What to do with half a bear hide.

Last month I was lucky and got what I call a " sausage " bear ( a 150 pounder ) and will end up with the rear half hide ( Black ) untanned at this time. I'm wondering if anyone has used bearhide for bag flaps or other uses and if it will be worth while cost wise to tan this hide as I don't do that kind of work myself. I'm thinking there should be several flaps in that half hide.  :-\  I would give the hide away to a member here if they paid for the tanning and shipping.

There is at least one bag from "back-in-the-day" shown in Madison Grant's hunting pouch book that is of bear hide with the hair on.

Always thought it was a neat piece of equipment.

Make yourself a sporan to go with your kilt.  Then you can have a bear skin in front and a bare skin behind.

you'll figure out something positive, but the door is clearly open for the more irresponsible of us to jump on this.

I recommend you lay it out on the floor and tell everyody it was a rescue skin where an abusive owner ate the front half only

The bear is now at the Taxi-Dermist and the bottom half will probably be discarded unless someone wants it and I can have the taxidermist save it, if its not too late.
