Original Iron Trigger Guards - Southern Samples
« on: October 10, 2022, 10:21:02 PM »
I thought it would be interesting to show these, most are from Southern Mountain long rifles, a few from other regions of the South.

My goodness! What a great selection from a fine collection. Thank you for your time and effort to take the photos and then posting them here. We appreciate it.
Sure shows a wide range and styles all beautifully done. This is the bonus of hand forged versus castings.

The different trigger profiles are interesting as well.

Thanks again all.  I was just enjoying looking at mine on their racks, and thinking about iron being used more in the South than cast brass, thinking of all the American migration patterns and where they'd learned.  Trying to determine regional and chorographical trends, like where and why did the ring at the end of the TN hand rail come from?  Identifying an individual gunsmith by trigger guard it too difficult, they changed them sometimes with every rifle.  But it's great to look at them all at once and think about it.

Unfortunately I can't find the photos from a previous ALR post, but the Jacob Young iron mounted rifle has a very nice guard. Jim Parker (aka Bama) did have some photos of the rifle.
