BP shooting after Cataract surgery

I am scheduled for cataract surgery Nov 17 and am wondering if any of you have had that done and what were the results. There are two different types of lens inserts a traditional mono- focal lens and a multifocal and astigmatism correcting lens. I can choose either but believe I will choose the latter, I have a little time to choose. The mono lens corrects distance vision and will require reading glasses while the multifocal may not require any glasses. I do have a slight astigmatism but the doctor says I could still choose  the mono lens if I want. I am hoping to hear from folks who have had this done and hopefully both types of lenses so as to compare results and suggestions. There is an added cost for the multifocal but that doesn't bother me, these are the only eyes I have. At the moment I wear progressive lenses but I have had to stop driving at night due to glare. I realize I will still have to wear safety glasses when shooting I shoot both flint and percussion. Don

My gopher hunting buddy had his right eye lens replaced. Lets just say, that to stay ahead of him on a gopher field, I had to buy a repeater
and put the single shot aside. Yes, of course it's a competition.
After a year, he got his left eye done as well. His eyesight is now 20/20 & ASAIK, he doesn't need or use reading glasses, either.

I had both eyes done.  Everything is brighter and I can see at night, but I can't see as good as I could before surgery.  I wore glasses all my life and still have to after surgery.  I need them to read, but I can't read very small print.  I can see the computer screen without them.  Distances are not clear and objects are often double-visioned.  My new glasses are mediocre, but as close as the eye doctor could get.  I had the mono lens done in both eyes.  On the other hand, my wife had both eyes done and she only needs to wear glasses while reading.

I had my cataract surgery in 2010. I chose the the mono lens. I have to use reading glasses. Seeing at long distance is great. After surgery I had 20/20 vision. I now can see my open sights like when I was young ( 75 yrs. now).

I chose mono. Left eye for close up and right eye for distance. Don't need glasses. The eyes work together, and I can see well at all distances. If you are a right-hand shooter, you will want your right eye for distance. Best to discuss this with your Dr.

I had both lenses done about 20 years ago, helped with the cataracts, but I still had to wear glasses. Course all that went out the window when my retina detached three years ago. VA has me at 100% for my eyesight now.
But I still love to shoot, even if the targets a lot closer, and my accuracy is not as good!

I had both eyes done in 2008 and chose the more expensive multi-focal lens. One eye set for distance and the other for close up means I'll never need glasses for most things. Vision today is 20/15 which is better than 20/20 while in the optometrists office but still need glasses to see sights right handed. The big mistake I made was not getting the cost in writing beforehand because it ended up being double and I got a surprise bill a couple months later from the hospital.

Had both mine done maybe 15 years ago.
Lot brighter since, but was never consulted on lenses so took what they had!
Right is set for closer, but manage to shoot with open sights OK.
had them lazered a few years after surgery, to remove gunk from lenses. Need them doing again really, and there are two overlapped moons again now.
Before surgery, there was three of everything. Never knew which rear sight to line up with which front sight, on which deer!

No cost up here, in Canada, but maybe that's why they don't have options on lenses that I know of.
(yes I know, Nothing free, someone Always pays, but you get my drift!)

Medicare covers cataract exam and surgery as well as the mono lenses. Muti focal lenses will be paid by you. Had the mono focal lenses put in last year and am happy with them. Zero cost and have no need for glasses.

 I too had both eyes done with the most expensive lenses.  I talked with a friend that had hs done but with the lenses paid for 100% by Medicare.  From what we can come up with, he can see just as good as I can but for $3000.00 less  .  I can see better and read the letters clear down to the bottom line on the eye dr chart.  Colors are brighter and you will notice the fog is missing, that you never knew you had, afterwards.  No glasses and shooting is better because you will be able to see better.  The only problem I've had is the halos around all the lights at night.  They said that I would get used to it but no, I haven't.  I try not to drive after dark.  Good luck.

I had Both eyes done in 2021  The lens have the prescription in it for Nearsighted. Now I have 20/20 left eye & 20/15 in my right eye. I can spot a groundhog at 300 yards driving down the interstate.

Medicare paid most of mine & my Ins supplement the remaining, so my out of pocket was little.  Maybe $300. total or so cause I seldom go to Dr. & take no meds so I had not paid any of my deductible. Right after that I had major shoulder surgery & biceps repair & paid  only first visit ? $50. for Specialist  and going in for surgery ? $175. and that was it.  I think everyone's is a little different. 2nd eye I paid nothing. Post surgery pain ? Absolutely None. Did one then a week later the other eye. Eye drops for  a month I think it was.

But I had really good close up vision & now it really sucks.  Anything past 4' is awesome.  But the up close I need 3 sets of glasses. One for 12', one for 24', one for 36', etc. Eye Dr wants me to try a set of progressive lens, but I had those before for Nearsighted & tripped over things up close, so ditched those. Dang near fell down the stairs 3-4 times.  Right now don't do much rifle building as I get so upset changing glasses all the time. I'm building one, but it seems like I no sooner start on something & go to reach for a dif tool, can't find the @!*% thing because I need the other glasses. Get them on, find the tool, now back to the first glasses & so on.

If I had t do it over ?  Would not have done it yet. Would have waited til my vision was allot worse than it was.  And I have a floater in my right eye all the time & that is frustrating.

Now open rifle sights & ahhhhhhhh tubular sights & can see really good & love it.

One thing they May not tell you about, & did not tell me, Floaters. You know those black spots you see sometimes floating around.  I have one in my right eye in peripheral vision that if I am watching TV, it
looks like a mouse or big bug drawling up the wall. And every time I blink, it moves again.  It bugged the heck out of me at first but I have learned to pretty much ignore it now.  Course if IS a mouse or a big bug, now I would ignore it too & could be easily invaded by a army of either. 

So.....  I would say if you can't see worth a $#@* & have coke bottle lens, I'd say get it done.  But if you see well with glasses & have worn them for years & no real issues, I would think it over a while.

Had to laugh at that one! I’ve got some mean floaters too.
My Dad used to see spiders crawling on the walls and ceiling, and he hated spiders! It Was all we could do to keep him from shooting the .22 mag rat shot at them! 😁

I had my final check-up on my right eye last Thursday, it is better than perfect. The left eye, not so much, I have some scaring around the edge that I have to wait three years before they will smooth it out with a laser, it had to be fully developed. I have some flickering and prism distortion in the left corner of the left eye caused by the scaring.

I have 20-15 in the right, 20-30 in the left, I can read print from 2' away but not closer so I keep readers hanging around my neck.

I haven't been able to see sights in the last 8 years, here is an approximation of what I saw before the surgery and what I see now.

Free? Costs me $150.00 per month, every month. Now, it is not very expensive, but I still have to pay and have been all my working life.
It's only free to welfare recipients.

In Ontario Canada, free for everyone, even the meds if 65 and over . I assumed the other provinces would be much the same as Federal standards have to be adhered to.

No true. I have to pay for my meds. Greenshield only covers a little bit. I have to pay for medical & dental insurance EVERY month.
If you are working, sometimes the employer pays these fees and these are usually accessed a monetary value as part of your income.
This especially happens (paid for you) if you are in a government job.
When I was working for the government, I received free med, dental and pills. Since retiring, I have to pay for the insurance for each.
However, if you do need an operation, there is no EXTRA fee. It is covered. In that respect, it seems free, even though medical is over
 $100.00 per month. 1,200 a year is pretty cheap, IF you can get the operation needed. Most orthopedic surgeries are at least 1 1/2
year wait.
