A new Powder Horn (#23)
«

I finished this horn up today (#23) and had intended to sell it, but when I was wompin' in the tail staple I cracked the wooden plug (The staple prongs were too fat, just as I thought!). It was an easy repair but I won't sell it now.
It looks nice on my shooting pouch though

We should all suffer such mistakes..
I really dig the color that you used to stain the spout end, such a rich mahogany/cordovan!

I have found it best to put the staple in and bend the legs over after it is fit but before anchoring it.
Another good looking horn, Very well done.

Fantastic work once again. As always, I love the colors you achieve. That horn is one anyone should be proud to own and carry, repaired crack or nor.
Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful piece of work. Do you drill pilot holes before driving your staples?

Thanks again everyone.
As to drilling pilot holes for the staples- yes I did.. Though obviously not big enough ones. I just chalk it up to another lesson learned- slow down, step back and be more !@*%&@ careful.
Anyway, I have made enough mistakes over the years now that I just don't get that upset at myself so much any more. (Though I am glad the shop windows were closed
)

Regardless of the repair, that’s a fine looking horn.
