« on: November 18, 2022, 04:21:28 AM »
Took my Kibler .54 out for some hunting today up the mountain. Scored a nice little Spike Buck.

Very nice! Was the gun loaded from a really cool powder horn?

Lots of thanks everyone- and I hadn't realized my hunting jacket was a relic already. Now I feel really old LOL. I got that coat and hat when I was 18 (Herman's Sporting Goods) and it's still in wonderful condition. It sure kept me warm on the cold days.

Well done Bob.

I've taken a lot of deer with cartridge rifles, caplocks, flintlocks and even one with a bow. For me, the ones taken with a flintlock are the most memorable.
My wife says I'm totally nuts, but I think I'm Semisane.

Good job Bob. I too have a few of the relic hunting jackets. Refuse to throw anything away even though they don't fit like they use to.  ::)

Congratulations! What state are you hunting in? I ask because I have been hunting in southern Illinois, and have hunted in Oklahoma, Indiana, Kentucky and Florida and all these states require hunter orange. I will be back home in Arizona at the end of the month and there is no such requirements. I understand some Eastern states do not require it for their Muzzleloading seasons, just curious.

Looks like a good day.

I have been staring at my hunting gear and Kibler 58 for over a week now. Had it all ready for opening day only to get Covid!!
Wife and I made it 2 - 1/2 years with no problems, even working at a High School. Still not feeling good enough. Maybe another day or two.

Deers that size tend to have a smooth flavor and a pleasant mouthfeel when their flesh is chewn. Congrats.

I got interested in flintlocks 5 years ago after picking up a copy of Muzzleloader magazine. I then ordered and built a Kibler 54 caliber Colonial rifle. It took 4 seasons to get my first flintlock buck taken while hunting in KY with my sons on 11/12/2022.

Congratulations! 11/12/22 was an exceptionally cold, wet, nasty day. It got the best of me. These Kentucky deer are getting better every year.
