Small game carrier.
« on: November 23, 2022, 08:20:32 PM »
I have been seeing the awesome looking net bags but has anyone made a squirrel carrier? The ones I've seen are strand of leather with some kind of tie or something on the end so you can hang a squirrel or rabbit from your belt. If so I'd like to see it for some ideas.

I think "The Leatherman" makes one such as you describe.

A thong with a loop or ring on the end would work. Multiple of them, would 'carry' multiple animals or a variety of species.
Pull the thong through the loop making a noose and hang 'em - high or low.
This one listed on Amazon.ca for $25.00.

In looking at these, they wouldn't even need the ring, as they already have the method of a noose.

That's what I was looking at . Looks like the ring just hold it open. Not really necessary.

The ring may not be necessary, but it does help with general function and looks proper and finished

I don't think I would want to haul 12 bloody agile tree-dwelling rodents around on straps on a bag or belt. I would think a "Croker" sack would work better ;D

You would want a wide strap over the shoulder - like 2 7/8" or wider for that load, Tim.

That a nice one, put some dry leaves in it and add the little buggers. I used to wash mine out a few times a season. The limit was 6 a day and they fit nicly.

Yes, at home, Virginia folks would use them to carry fish in. I guess some of them were "Crokers" hense name. The fish actually makes a "croaking sound when you take it iff the hook.

I don't know, all I've ever heard them called is "Croaker". Looks like the "Atlanic" in the link.

In southern VA next to NC line, where I grew up, we called that a crocus sack. Since most in that area were originally from western NC the term may have originated there.

Just looked up the trem and here is what they give as a definition:

OK, more to the story...,  I copied a game bag given out to participants in "The Great Ohio Rabbit Hunt 1999", sponsored by Dean Torges (RIP,old friend).  I've retired this bag and needed a replacement, maybe a tad more fitting to the period.   The original wouldn't have  held a limit of rabbits, be hard pressed for Squirrel, here in Ohio.
Call it what you want, game bag works for me.
