Woodsrunner with some carving
« on: November 25, 2022, 08:03:57 PM »
Hey there.  I'd been doing some carving on one of our "Woodsrunner" kits recently and thought it might give some ideas to others.  It's pretty simple, but adds a lot to the overall appeal of the rifle.  Any questions, let me know.

That's all it needs to accent whats already screaming thru the architecture.  Love it.

Jim, can I get mine carved like that before you ship it??  If so, how much would that cost?  I have been unsuccessful finding someone locally to carve mine and I don't want to ship the stock out after I get it.  Afraid it will get smashed or broken.   Thanks.

Love the little detail at the end of the cheek piece.

Ok, what tools would I need to try this ?
I really want mine carved, nothing fancy, just something like those pictures and I guess you are not doing that for people Jim, so I have to learn on my own how to do this.  I am a sawdust maker for the last 40 years, but never ever tried carving.  I would like to learn but if I mess up the stock, I will really be upset and not sure the wife would let me buy a second one :)  My woodsrunner won't be here for a few months, but I never did fully finish the Mountain rifle, I assembled it and went shooting (quite a few times) and never took it back apart to actually finish it, guess I could try that one, after trying on some chunks of maple I have in the shop.  So what tools do you recommend ?
...let's finish a rifle I started back in the 70's...

Looks real nice, and I would be happy if my kit arrived with the wood done like that.

SWEET! Isn't that carving quite similar to what is on the original?

I put your "kit" (think it was #16) together in one hour. Now with polishing the brass, I have an additional 4-5 hours in. I have been waiting to do any finishing until you posted some pictures of carving as I wanted add some carving. Thanks for getting to that so quickly.

Will you be doing other carving patterns in the near future?

If you do code the carving pattern(s) and offer it as an option, you will be even busier than you are now!!

John

I don't know if the lines and curls on the cheek piece are inspired by an existing rifle, but I love them. It's different from what I've seen in my short time here. Simple and beautiful.

Dave,

Unfortunately It's not possible for me to stand at the bench and carve guns.  Even a simple job like this can take quite a bit of time.  In time we may be able to offer this but definitely not now.

I'm glad you like the design. As far as someone else doing the carving, it's probably going to be difficult to find someone that is competent and willing to just do the carving.  Most will want to finish the gun as well.  If you want the entire rifle completed, I can probably help with someone who will do a great job.

Jim
