#2 The $40.00 Musket
« on: December 11, 2022, 12:43:17 AM »
Ok don't be jealous because it might be the only one in the country and it was only 40 bucks + shipping.
Here's a few hints. 1. It is not old. 2. It is built by hand except the trigger. 3. It's from the  Dark Continent. Check the link below for info

I'll have to take some pictures of mine.  It was made by a village gunsmith in Nigeria, and brought to this country by a Bell Telephone tech who was working there.  It has a long barrel made from tubing. Whoever made it knew what he was doing. Obviously has been used, but I would be hesitant to fire it.  These guns are referred to as "Dane Guns".  They were used to get bush meat.  African governments were uncomfortable with their people owning modern firearms, so these muzzleloaders were tolerated.
If you stop and think about it, these guns were used for the exact same purposes that plain utilitarian guns were used for in America.

Weren't some of these home made specials also referred to as 'Karl Gustave' guns. also? Seems to me I saw an African made gun for sale under that name a long while ago.

A mate of mine made a few of these for the boys when he was out there.
Drill rod, fence post and jam tins mainly. Jumper rod too.

The barrel is 45 1/2", just over .50 caliber.  There is a little elastic retainer to keep a musket cap on the nipple.

The ramrod is thin steel, carried in a formed sheet steel tube soldered under the barrel.

That's pretty cool, BUT you should have held out for the tactical version
