Russ Hamm Locked Rifle

This is a rifle I am expecting soon.  What caught my attention was the Russ Hamm lock. The rifle is a .32 and engraved on top J * Nelson 1975  12.  The hammer on the lock seems odd.  Is it a traditional style? Does the J Nelson ring any bells? Thanks in advance.

It is the appropriate lock for a Bedford rifle which you have. Nice '70s gun too.

The things I don't know about Pennsylvania Longrifle styles could fill a book about, well, Pennsylvania Longrifles! Trying to lessen my learning curve here.

I think Russ Hamm probably made more Bedord style locks than any of us who were making locks.
W.G.Sutter made them as did Ted Cole and I made a very few maybe in 1960.Mr.Sutter made the
whole lock including the hammer.I used a cast hammer from Ken Roethlesberger who was in Ohio.
