A Brennan rifle on the blog.
« on: December 29, 2022, 10:50:44 PM »
There was a fun day on Stoner Creek today.  A new/old rifle showed up.  I sent the staff photographer over to get a couple of full length shots for the full effect.  They will be added when he returns.  www.bricestultzhisblog.blogspot.com

There will be more pictures when my UPS truck runs today.

Jud B is one of those rare builders that can take a $40 plain maple blank, and turn it into a masterpiece.  A true artisan.

It appears that there may be a couple of schools represented ?  Some of the carving elements are much like Thomas Simpson`s work. The engraving on the side plate is much like engravings on Simpson`s work as well as Jacob Young. The Butt plate is done in a fashion much like rifles and guns of the Lehigh valley. The butt plate return being inlet flush with the comb was probably done elsewhere ? I can`t verify this , but the butt plate being done like that just makes me think of Lehigh guns.   I really like this rifle and am a big fan of Jud`s work! I am only speculating on this and, am eager to hear what his influences were. VERY nice piece!

Looked at the pics again. The butt plate is not like I first thought.  I will now go with Cumberland School.

Flintlock is the only truly reliable source of ignition in a muzzle loader.
