A Patilla Miquelet lock for a Spanish Escopeta

Been working on building a Miquelet lock from a set of TRS castings. Finally got the lock assembled and in the rough. Still have a lot of filing and polishing to do along with some fine tuning and tempering of the main and sear springs and battery face. I do not think there is one part on this kit that was not subject to modification, be it heated and straightened, heated and reshaped, welded or heavily filed, plus all the screws needed to be manufactured. Not ever building a Miquelet lock also added to the challenge as this is definitely not your forefathers flintlock. I think I finally have most of the small nuances figured out and should end up with a lock that is historically correct and functional. Stay tuned. I have the Rice octagon to 16 sided Spanish barrel inlet into a piece of black cherry from Tiger Hunt just sitting there waiting for this lock to be inlet.

Very cool project. I hear these can be quite snappy. I can relate to the trials of building from some sets of castings.

Lovely job Dave!
These locks are savage little sods! They are a bit unforgiving compared to our regular French locks.
These are sort of cross -bred with mousetraps!
Wonderful job you are doing!
Rich.

I machined the battery face with a dovetail cutter using my milling machine. I then machined dovetails in a piece of 1084 to get an interference fit with the battery. I will eventually remove the 1084 and harden it and then using loc-tite sleeve locker will reinstall the 1084 to the battery. Manny original Miquelet locks battery's had replaceable faces. Some of these faces were held in place with a screw that passed through the battery.

Definitely top notch Dave, but then that is what we expect from you
Hope you bring it with you when you come East this year. We missed having you with us in AL last week, but we did talk about you if that helps

Looks like a fun project! Nice job!
I only done one and the TRS kits leave much to be desired.
