Jaeger rifle kit finished.
« on: January 19, 2023, 08:34:46 PM »
My Jaeger rifle build - Finally it's done.
The kit is finished. It has been a long way with quite a lot new experiences for me, like engraving, wire inlays in steel and wood and a few other challenges.
I proudly present some pictures of the gun and hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
Thank you all for your interest.

Christian

Good job Christian, especially given some of the challenges that being in Europe with our hobby comes with.
Something to be proud of for certain. Maybe in the next project you will plan to make more of the components yourself, and eventually find it easier just to make what you want versus modifying someone else's.
Glad you decided to join us, and keep us posted from the east side of the "Big Pond".

Thank you Carl.
Two things on my to do list in the near future. Practicing carving and engraving including better sharpening of the tools.
I agree it's not that easy with guns in Germany but manageable.
Glad to be here and to get much input and inspiration.

Sir,  Where is that kit from?  And what caliber is it?
Really nice work.  Engraving  is on my "to learn" list also.  You have done a good job on this.
Where are you located in Germany?  My family was from Grunbach in western Germany, way back.
Regards

Well, I don't know the maker of this kit. It's from a german dealer, I think, imported from the U.S. (the parts can all be found at Track of the Wolf) It's a .50 cal 31" Rice barrel.
I'm from Eastern Germany, Saxonia.

Well done Christian.  Very nice and well decorated rifle.  One suggestion I can offer, make yourself a little "nudge" tool for doing silver wire work.  I made mine from a small screw driver with a 3mm wide tip.  Grind the tip round and use it to push your wire before it is filed flush to smooth the curves.  That gets rid of kinks in scrolls and curved lines and it works wonderfully well.  The photo below shows my nudge tool with its yellow handle.

You did a great job Christian. Working within the limitations of a kit is both challenging and frustrating.
You got the basics right, which is inletting. Too many times I see highly embellished guns that have less than stellar inlets.
Kits pre inlets makes that very difficult sometimes.

Very nice work on the Jaeger. I built the same kit during the pandemic, but in .54 caliber. While I'm happy with how mine turned out, I admire the extra work you put into the details on your rifle, such as how you enhanced the screws and the muzzle. I particularly like your horn muzzle cap and ramrod tip -- the perfect detail for a jaeger. I'm confident you will enjoy shooting your rifle as much as I do mine. You will love that Rice barrel.

Thank you. Do you mind to show some pictures of yours?
By the way, though it might look like horn, the muzzle cap and ramrod tip are made from ebony.
