I really enjoyed the video in this thread. Some gorgeous smoothies in it. I think Danny Caywood mentioned. mentioned using corn muffin mix as a buffering agent.

Lotsa modern day shotgun hunters also load corn meal as a buffering agent. in their shot loads.
Remington's PufLon, I think it's call, also works well & can be mixed into the shot, then pushed down all at once.
It's all about experimentation.

I've never cared for any smooth bore but I would think it's useful range would be that in which a killing shot could be delivered to whatever was being shot at.I "killed" a new paint job on a 1956 Chevrolet when the occupants were stealing fancy hubcaps from a new Mercury across the street. That was a close up shot with #4 shot and a 10 gauge sxs.

Thank you Richard on jarring my memory about Fullard barrels. Hawker spoke highly of him and Lancaster IIRC. It's interesting to note how much they knew about the subje

With a properly jugged barrel with the propper amount of powder and shot you can kill turkeys out to 50 yards. All barrels are not jugged equally, the jugger must know what he's doing.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Who do you consider to be good juggers? I have a barrel that could do with a good jugging.
