Triggerguard Attachment issue
« on: November 14, 2009, 01:57:43 AM »
Hi all -
Had to remove my triggerguard to do some cleaning of the trigger assembly on my rifle. However, now they screws to hold the triggerguard will not hold into the wood when I replace them. What do you recommend? Should I increase the screw size and thusly the hole in the guard? I feel this would look sloppy as the next size up is kind of bulky compared to the sleek brass guard. Any ideas?

The nice way to fix this is to drill, then plug the holes with hard wood dowel . Then redrill.
Cheap and fast way....drop in a piece of toothpick with a dap of glue, and screw your guard to the stock.
I do this when someone wants me to fix their gun, but don't want to pay. It works .

Slip a little bit of carpenter's glue and a sliver of maple (tooth pick) into the hole and tighten up the screw.  Just snug at first.  Let it set a day and then you should be able to tighten it fully.

Wax your screw before gluing in place.

Johnson's paste wax works great as a release agent.

Failure only comes when you stop trying.

Easiest way, Poke some sawdust in the hole with a toothpick, Put a drop of superglue in the hole on top of the sawdust, pack the mix with the toothpick, 10 second fix, very strong.
