« on: February 02, 2023, 04:42:11 PM »
Received a request to see one of my hand crafted doubles. I have but one left. Nothing fancy about it being built as a service gun but it does need engraving. All metal parts hand crafted except barrels and locks. Vital statistics:

Weight: 5 lbs. 8 3⁄4 oz; 5 lbs. 13 1⁄2 oz w/weight to shift point of balance.
Length: 44 3/8" overall
Barrels: 28" brown12 bore Belgium two iron Damascus.
Choke: 0.710" right; 0.700" left
Breech plugs: Nock style w/faux case hardened coloring.
Stock: 1/4 sawn figured American black walnut w/cheek piece; hand rubbed oil
finish, wrist hand cut checked 14 lines per inch.
Trigger pull: 14 3/8"
Drop @ comb: 1 3/8"
Drop @ heel: 2 3/4"
Pitch: 2 1/8" down @ 28" (-4 degrees)
Cast: 3/8" cast off
Mountings: Blued steel
Locks: L&R Late English (Hawken) finished w/faux case hardened coloring.
Loading rod: Ebonized hickory w/brass horn and cleaning jag.

Here’s some pics:

It’s a fine shooter designed for utmost customer satisfaction in fit and function. Who’s the customer? Me!

Here's one of the SXS's I did 15 or 20 years ago. I think it was a 14 bore. That's my engraving and checkering....too much work. ::)

Both doubles are great.  Love em.  Now I want one again.

Those are wonderful looking guns, boys. Now I want one too.
The art of making damascus (twisted) barrels is not dead - yet. Here is a picture of a set of barrels made last week at Purdey's in London.
I suspect they are rather pricey.

$1,131 minus taxes just for the barrels - too rich for me.

Thanks guys. If you want build one of your own, we have the book that will guide you every step of the way.

Longknife, spring turkey season is just around the corner.

Daryl, my birthday is just around the corner too. Those barrels sure would like nice on a marblecake walnut stock.
