New classes for May 2023 - Updated
« on: January 31, 2023, 06:06:40 PM »
Announcing three new classes (well four...actually three... more on that later) offered by Southern Ohio Artisan Workshops for the Traditional Skills Week this coming May. I can answer questions here, or more information on the classes is available on the SOAW website at https://www.southernohioartisanworkshops.com/

Make a leather covered document box with Ken Gahagan. We listed this one a week or so ago and it is filling up quickly, currently only a couple of spots left available

Make a powder horn with HCH Master Horner Clinton Byers of Horn and Fiber. This class is open to beginners and also to those with a little experience who would just like to learn Clint's methods for making a well executed traditional horn. It might be a great choice for some of our newcomers to the longrifle world who have built or are working on their first gun and want to start making some of their own authentically styled accoutrements to go along with it - or just a great introductory class for aspiring hornsmiths.

And now for the third and fourth... well actually just the third....So, multitalented artisan Kerry Masarik also of Horn and Fiber has agreed to come teach a class for us. Trouble is she's so good at so many things it's been hard for us to pick just one, so we're asking for help! We have narrowed it down to two choices. Potentially she could teach a class in advanced strap weaving techniques (students would need to have some prior familiarity with inkle loom use),  or she could do a class in preparing and using natural dyes. These are both hands - on workshops and either one would be a great class. Anyone who is interested in one or the other (or both) can "cast a vote" by going to the SOAW website and checking off the class of your choice under the request information page.

Another class added -  Make a frame handle Bowie Knife with Steve Auvenshine. Steve did this class for Southern Ohio Artisan Workshops last fall and it was a great success. We had several on the waiting list already to get in whenever he came to teach it again, but we do have a few spots available. More info on the SOAW website  -   https://www.southernohioartisanworkshops.com/bowie-knife-workshop.html

Having a little trouble getting photos posted this evening! I'll visit again soon and add a couple pictures from last year's class.
