Kibler SMR Build Finished
« on: February 14, 2023, 12:31:39 AM »
I finished this one up a couple of weeks ago. It’s sighted in and shoots beautifully. She’s a .45 cal with the 1-70 GM barrel. Wanted to share a few photos.

Looks nice. What load shot the best groups with that 1-70 twist barrel?

Surprisingly I started with 45 gr of Goex 3F and the rifle seemed to like that from the start. This was with a cast .440 RB, .015 P, and mink oil lube. Haven’t even tried a thicker patch yet. I will do some experimenting next time out, but I’m pretty sure the rifle is already shooting tighter than my abilities can improve! These targets are at 25 and 50 yards after I had made elevation and windage adjustments and were from a rest.

Forgot to add that I was using a 6 o’clock hold on these shots and was try to raise the POI more but ran out of front sight to file off. Next shooting session I’ll try some heavier loads and centered aiming to see how the POI moves. My old eyes make the fine tuning more difficult.

Ha! I agree, but the width was spot on. I dug that one out of my box after cleaning. The one I replaced looked better, and was still sparking good, but after numerous dry fires and 24 initial rounds I swapped it out.
