Wanted to share some of the leather items I've been experimenting with this winter. I've always liked to draw and have become interested in applying drawings to 3-dimensional accouterments and other objects for more "practical art". Leather has provided a nice canvas that is simple and fairly clean to work with, so I can be near my daughter.
Most recently I'm building off some feedback from the CLA show and trying some integrated flap pouches. My first, the cherub bag, has some issues but the second, the hunter, came out a bit better on construction.
The wallets and other small pouches are an easy way to play with designs because they are small and the rectangles offer simple compositions. The wallets are made from Jeff Luke's pattern.
The black lines are applied as ink, the cuts are made with a small veining palm chisel. I apply the dye in layers like watercolor with a paint brush to get the different tones.
