Newly minted Jaeger….
« on: March 01, 2023, 02:56:41 AM »
I finally got around to finishing up this Jaeger after being on the back burner for quite awhile…
Not modeled after any particular school or builder, just something that I came up with.  The blank was one of Ron Scott’s beautiful pieces.  If you have anything in your plans that might involve some European walnut, I’d highly recommend getting in touch with Ron!
The furniture is also from Ron, although I can’t remember if I purchased it directly from him while at the WKU Seminar, or through MLBS.
The barrel is an older, 28” Getz, in .54 caliber.  The lock is the Chambers round face Germanic lock with a brass plate.
The stock was first sealed with Herters French red filler, then varnished with a few thin coats of tung oil.
I’d be happy to answer any questions if you have them.  Best,

Ed

One day when I grow up, I would like to be able to build a gun that well. Another great job Ed!

Carl

Hi Ed,
That is unbelievable!  What a great gun from every angle.  Would you please consider doing a demo at Kempton about incised carving.  Please, please, please.

Greetings Ed,
I don't know, I think you have really gone to the dark side.  There's no going back, LOL.   It is really a beautiful piece your tang and breech engraving is top shelf.   You are correct about checking with Ron for your European Walnut.  I got the stocks for my last pistols I made from Ron.  Hank

Ed,
Beautiful, beautiful piece. Wood, hardware are great, but the carving and engraving!
You make a mere mortal like me fell VERY inadequate!
I know I’ll not live long enough to every get anywhere close to that level.
Kudos!

Ed that is outstanding workmanship coupled with a very artistic eye. Looking forward to studying the photos in detail. What finish do you have on the metal?

I knew it was going to be a special day when I opened the laptop and saw a new thread with Jaeger and Wenger in the title!  Love it, awesome rifle.
