Woodsrunner Complete…mostly
« on: March 05, 2023, 07:23:13 PM »
Attached are pic of my mostly completed Woodsrunner kit. I haven’t decided whether I’m going to polish the lock or give it a blued and rubbed back treatment like the barrel, so I have left it as delivered for now. I don’t draw well, so I avoid carving. But I did add a thumb piece, a couple of escutcheons and a toe plate. Constructive criticism is welcome. I know some will hate the barber pole treatment on the ramrod, but I like them that way.

Best,
Jay

Nicely finished, Jay. I would polish the lock and that's it.  If a hunting rifle for you, I'd do the blue and rub-back on the lock.

Polish the lock and then do whatever finish you wish. Nothing looks more half finished than leaving the sand blasted finish on parts.

I'd leave the lock as is.  Absolutely beautiful!

When I finish a rifle, I usually make two ramrods for it, one striped and one stained solid.  I think of the old commercial jingle “Sometimes you feel like a stripe, sometimes you don’t!”  It gives the user the freedom to use whatever suits his taste, and he (she) can always carry a spare, in case he breaks one and wants to keep shooting.

I saw a Kibler Woodsrunner finished rifle at the Mountain Man Muzzleloader show in Enumclaw, WA today, It was beautifully finished by a fellow named Tom. 54 caliber. Tom has not fired it yet but let me shoulder the rifle. Had a cherry stock. It feels very nimble and balances well. It would be fun to hunt with it!
