Fly notch planning. Need help.
« on: March 07, 2023, 10:46:07 PM »
I’ve been reading through the replies on “fitting a Fly”
https://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=73410.msg731607#msg731607
I want to make sure I’ve understood this correctly before I start cutting the tumbler.

1.   Draw a line from the center of the tumbler axel to the middle between the half cock and full cock notches.

2.   Draw the hole (#44 drill or 2mm) for the tit on the fly along this line as close to the tumbler axel as possible.

3.   Draw a line that starts 1,9mm rearwards from the full cock notch and tangents with the fly hole. Draw another line that starts 1,9mm in front of the half cock notch and tangents with the fly hole. Mill out the area between these lines to a depth of 1,9mm.

Have I understood this process correctly?

Best regards
Rolf

Yes and the depth is right also.Once the fly is made and tapered install it so the rear of the fly is barely forward of the full cock notch.
Pull the fly back and contour it to the curvature of the half cock and then taper the fly to get past the half cock and then check full function.
