I am guessing when you say finishing schedule you are not talking about how long it took due to life interrupting my build. It did take a while due to learning along the way. The carving although simple was the biggest delay. Anyway, to finish I applied iron nitrate, let it dry for 45 minutes or so then warmed it up with a heat gun. That was a learning experience all by itself. I did two coats with the iron nitrate. Then I used Tried and True oil for the finish. I put 7 coats on it and the waiting between coats for it to dry seemed like forever. I used a grey scotchbrite pad to apply the early coats then switched to a piece of soft cloth for the last few just to carry less oil to the wood. I did burnish between coats with a piece of wood dowel. That really made it smooth and shiny. It was actually too shiny when I was done for what I was after. I knocked it back with a light buff of grey scotchbrite and buffed with a soft clothe. I hope that is what you where after.
Nice work! I like it. A really pleasing finish on that rifle.Jim
