Well, the day has started out well. My objective was to lower the nose of the comb per Bsharp's suggestion and then tackle whatever needed to be done with the buttplate. Pleasant surprise - the comb already lines up with the center of the screw. Actually, the nose is about 1/32" low, but I expect the rear to be a tad lower after I re-fit the plate.
Wow, some folks around here have a pretty sharp eye! The filing job on the extension was not my best work. It was not straight front to rear or side to side and the two sides were not the same distance down from the top flat. Having said that, the maximum high-to-low deviation was only about 0.012". It is straight and even now and I would stake my life on it
. Time to re-fit the plate.
I would appreciate a critique or critiques of my post # 17 since I would like avoid going from the frying pan to the fire.
