TRS delivery
« on: April 06, 2023, 07:02:46 PM »
Here’s something you don’t see every day. My advice: call Monday through Thursday. Leave messages but keep calling. Have your list ready. Only order what is in stock.

    • Let's build a classic 18th century English style double barrel sporting gun!

Aren't you the lucky one. Been waiting for Griffin castings for a very long time. Could say i'm jealous but would it do any good? Happy building!

Hank
Yes, I did write a book. It's called The Classic English Double Barrel Click the little globe between my profile and e-mail link to check it out.

I have to say I have toyed with the idea of ordering one of their Charleville kits and possibly sourcing out the lock assembly to someone with the experience to do the lock assembly and hardening of parts. But the customer service stories I have seen on here have stopped me this far.

The barrels may be the biggest issue now unless they stocked up. Colerain made most of their barrels and their production is limited right now.

Sure is a lot of hocus pokus just to get some parts.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

I always hear people say "only order what's in stock". I never understood this statement. Am I supposed to order stuff I don't want or need just because it's in stock and I might actually get it? I ordered 1 part about 5 years ago that I actually wanted. I'm still waiting.

If they don't have what you want in stock, don't order it.

Don’t quote me on this, but last time I was there, a couple months ago, they had a lot of the Charleville parts. I fact I purchased one of the upper bands along with the 1766 pistol parts. Now if I could get the handyman to get over here and fix the attic pull down stairs so I ca build my new work bench.

It has been years since I bought from TRS and as I recall it took about 9 months to get the parts for 2 different sets of Manton flintlocks for double barreled guns.It took me to the limits of my skills to make them into useful locks.I bought external parts for 3 styles of the L&R locks and the castings were  excellent and probably still are.Easy to work with and that made making special mechanisms much easier.
One thing I remember being told by the man I talked to was that they had to drive for hours and deliver waxes in person because common
carriers like USPS-FedEx and UPS delivered so many that were broken in transit.Heck of a way to have to do anything IMHO but it was and still may be their realty
