Finished Albrecht-ish
« on: April 14, 2023, 10:07:20 PM »
Just finished this rifle   This the 5th build for me. Still plenty of mistakes but I’m finding I’m painting myself into a corner less frequently with each build. Red maple, buttplate, trigger guard, and other small stuff from Allen Martin.  Barrel is Rice Light Hagga in 60 cal. Lock is Chambers Dale Johnson. Finished rifle weighs 8 3/4 pounds. The barrel makes up 4 3/4 pounds of the total. Scraped finish, aqua fortis, T&T varnish oil. Barrel has Oxpho Blue over a base of LMF Brown. Thanks to all on this site that have shared info and pictures. It’s been a real help to me.

Looks great all around. Good quality pictures too. Thanks for sharing. Some one else posted about using hardware from Allen Martin. I checked his website but couldn’t find hardware for sale. All his guns are works of art by the way. 🙂

John, just call Allen and he’ll tell you if he has the hardware you’re looking for. Super helpful. I took my rifle over to his shop when I had it mostly what I thought was finished but still in the white. I looked at his work and realized I still had 5 times the amount of wood I should. Haha. I was able to take a little more off but I should have sunk my barrel a little deeper and I was over committed by the time I looked more closely at Allen’s work. Gun still handles and shoots well. Live and learn.

I am not looking for hardware at the moment but that’s good to know. The more I learn about gun making the more I realize there is more to learn 😆
