need haines and dickert plans
« on: November 23, 2009, 11:07:32 PM »
I'm looking for plans for haines and dickert other than the 1770 plan from track, isn't there a dickert by H Harrison iirc?  Can anyone point me in the right direction on where to find these?  Thanks

Log Cabin Shop used to sell the Houston Harrison drawing of the famous Dickert with the side opening daisy patchbox, that is in RCA 1.  The rifle was reportedly carried and used in 1782 on Crawford's ill-fated Sandusky campaign against the Wyandots in north-central Ohio.  Just a fantastic longrifle.

You probably already know this, but there are several other Dickert and Haines rifles shown in RCA 1.  I think Mel Hankla had (maybe still has) a Haines fowler on the American Historic Services website, about a year or so back.

I have a patern that I have that I can trace and send you.  It came from an original Lancaster that dates from 1774.  Not real sure I believe that it was a Dickert, at least that is what the tracing of the butt and tang carving looks like.  I modified the drop a little.  The original only had around 2 inches and wanted it closer to 3.  Go to the "over the back fence" topic area and view the picture in the first flintlock buck topic.  That rifle came from that pattern.  The lock on the original is very close to the Davis Colonial American lock.

RCA refers to the books Rifles of Colonial America, two volume set published by Shumway.
