Shooting at Friendship
« on: June 13, 2023, 01:57:28 PM »
It’s been several years since I have shot pistol competitively at Friendship. I decided to get back to shooting this year so here I am on the line. It feels great to be back on the line and shooting again. I shot decent at 25 yds but my 50 yd targets were terrible. Much more practice to get back to being competitive.

It's been a long time and good to see you there, Jim.

Thanks Robin, it was great seeing you and Becky there and all the friends I had not seen in a long time.

It was a pleasure to meet you at the pistol line Jim.
The wind conditions made 50 yards terrible for everyone, except for Lou Helsel.
Always great to see old friends there.

At the NMLRA contests, do you just show up and shoot the targets for your given events and turn them in? People have the whole time frame to shoot their targets and everything is finalized at the end?

Guido, it was great meeting you there and putting a face with the name. I enjoyed shooting on the range with you. I hope to be able to be back in September.

Seth, you register for the matches you want to shoot. Then you shoot the matches in any order you want. The matches are shot in a in 30 minute relays, one match per relay.

Hey Seth, I could be mistaken, but that sounds correct. There are particular matches that are set on certain days and times, but for the most part, the matches can be purchased and shot at any time during the week. Matches like the chunk match, mountain man, or the Crosley are shot at set days and times.

I particularly enjoy the pistol re-entry matches for all-week fun.

I’d like to endorse Ethan’s comment (above) regarding the re-entry matches on both pistol and offhand lines. Shoot anytime, they are a great way to get familiar with the ranges at Friendship, get settled down a bit, meet fellow shooters, etc, etc.. I’m nobody’s idea of a competitive offhand rifle shot… but I still enjoy competing against myself. The re-entry matches seem to work real well for me to enjoy shooting at Friendship without the added “ match pressure “ from a specific event. One note… they can be addictive, when you go inside to buy one re-entry target, you might go ahead and pick up several to make a day of it. 😉

My suggestion if you have never shot at Friendship or a Territorial for that matter, focus on what you like to shoot and don't try to do too much. It is easy to buy too many matches or aggregates, and then realizing that it takes quite a lot of time to shoot them.
At this year's June match at Friendship, I concentrated on pistol aggregates. The weather became an issue and I had a time constraint.
After I finished with my pistol shooting I had enough time to shoot a Woodswalk with a rifle.
