Line Scribe

I made this little scribe today for cutting stock lines. It’s not my original idea and I’m sure others already use one or something similar. I don’t remember where I saw it used so I can’t give credit where it’s due. I used a scrap piece of pine board, 3 finishing nails that I pilot drilled 1/16” and a little wood glue. After I cut the scribe nail to length I chucked it in the hand drill and rounded the point with a file. The base is long enough to fit across barrel channels. It’s fast and easy to build, so several can be made with different scribe heights. And the 1/16” hole holds the scribe nail securely with no movement.

Could work ok for forestock molding, but ideally the lower buttstock molding is seldom parallel to the lower edge.
Instead it tapers in width from widest at the rear, to narrowest at the front where it terminates beneath the trigger guard.

Just place a wood shim under the lower buttstock, thin part to the rear, to create the tapered grove.
