New England 10 bore fowling gun
« on: June 16, 2023, 01:16:39 AM »
This is a reworked Chambers New England fowling gun, 10 bore, with a flat face early Ketland lock, and the stock cut back to accommodate a bayonet for militia use.
The overall design was taken from different guns depicted in Grinslades book " Flintlock Fowlers"   There is a bit of folk art as well as some seed beads on the buttstock.  The stock is finished using iron nitrate stain, and Tried and True varnish oil. The bayonet is included with the gun.
This gun has been a faithful companion, and has brought deer ,black bear, ducks, geese and turkeys to table. I hate to admit that I've reached an age where it's a bit much for me as I find myself increasingly carrying my 20 bore . It's time for it to have a new home. :(
$ 1200.00    I will ship via parcel post

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

10 gauge/bore = .775 caliber.

Bringing this back for a try at $1200
The Chambers New England fowler stock has been altered at the lock inlet to accept the Chambers early Ketland lock as described,,just wanted to clarify that.
Barrel is 46 inches long and is 10 gauge / 10 bore

I'm 1 hour's drive north of Kingston, Ontario and an hour and a 1/2 west of Ottawa.
Canadian Shield country, with elms, pines,  ash, maples, oaks and birch trees

The carving is    H *LL*N     which represents HELLEN ,  both my mother's and grandmother's name

The bore is clean and in great shape. The lock ys the Chamber's early Ketland, which likes a 7/8 's flint
